Aboriginal Cultural Awareness

Kaya, my name is Ben McGuire, and I am a proud third-generation Noongar man and an Australian Aboriginal educator with a passion for sharing my culture’s rich history and traditions. Having grown up in Noongar Country, I offer a range of cultural awareness programs designed to bring Aboriginal culture to life. With a deep understanding of Aboriginal history, music and traditions, I create unique, interactive and memorable experiences that resonate with audiences of all ages.
My grandparents, Steven Gundi McGuire and Veronica McGuire (née Yarran), were respected Ballardong and Wadjak Elders. Their strong connection to their Noongar heritage is a source of pride for myself and my family, with roots extending into the Bennell, Blurton, Yarran, and McGuire families.
Steven and Veronica raised 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys, instilling in them the values of unity, resilience, and cultural pride. Their home was a place of love and cultural teachings, which continue to guide their descendants today. We as a family honour the legacy of our Nan and Pop, carrying forward the traditions and wisdom passed down through generations.
What is Cultural Awareness?
Cultural Awareness Consulting helps organisations understand, respect and effectively engage with diverse cultural backgrounds within their workforce, customer base or community. By providing expert guidance and tailored training, as a cultural consultant I aim to foster a more inclusive and respectful environment.
Key components of cultural awareness consulting include:
- Training and Workshops: Interactive sessions designed to educate individuals about cultural differences, promote sensitivity and improve cross-cultural communication.
- Consultation and Strategy Development: Tailored advice and strategies to integrate cultural competence into organisational policies, practices and customer interactions.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Tools and methods to assess current cultural awareness levels and measure the effectiveness of implemented strategies.
- Custom Solutions: Development of bespoke programs that address specific needs and challenges related to cultural diversity within the organisation.
Cultural awareness consulting seeks to enhance mutual understanding, reduce biases and create a more inclusive and harmonious environment.
Our culture is all about story telling. My school programs are designed to captivate and educate students about Aboriginal culture in an engaging classroom setting. Through hands-on activities, storytelling and demonstrations of traditional musical instruments, students gain a deeper appreciation for Aboriginal history and heritage.
